CardRX Card Care & Cleaning Instructions

CLEAN. ENHANCE. CARE FOR YOUR CARDS.

CardRX is a card-care system developed for collectors who want a controlled, careful way to clean, enhance, and maintain compatible sports, trading, and collectible cards.

The system is designed primarily for raw cards with compatible glossy, coated, non-textured surfaces, including many modern Chrome, Prizm, Optic, Select, and similar finishes.

For collectors preparing cards for grading, CardRX can help address surface grime, residue, fingerprints, and other minor surface imperfections that may affect a card's presentation and overall condition.

The goal isn't to change what makes a card unique. It's to help bring a compatible card's surface to its best possible condition and presentation before it is stored, displayed, sold, or submitted for grading.

Whether you're caring for a card, preparing it for photography or display, or getting a compatible card ready for grading, CardRX provides a controlled approach to surface care.

Use the right technique. Use as little product as necessary. Inspect your work. Know when to stop.

BEFORE YOU START

CardRX works best when you take your time.

Before working on any card:

1. Know the surface.

Identify the card's finish and construction before applying any product. A glossy appearance alone does not guarantee compatibility.

2. Practice before working on valuable cards.

Every card, coating, and surface can respond differently. If you're unfamiliar with a particular finish, practice on a lower-value card with a similar surface first.

3. Work clean.

Dust, dirt, oils, and other contamination can affect your results. Start with a clean workspace and clean tools.

4. Use the smallest amount necessary.

CardRX products are designed to be used sparingly. More product does not mean better results.

5. Start with light pressure.

Controlled, gentle application gives you the opportunity to evaluate the surface before doing more.

6. Inspect under strong light.

Surface residue, streaking, haze, and inconsistencies can be difficult to see until the card is tilted under direct light.

7. Know when to stop.

Card care isn't about making as many passes as possible. If the surface looks clean and consistent, additional work may be unnecessary.

THE CARDRX SYSTEM

CLEAN — Surface Cleaning & Light Correction

CLEAN is CardRX's minimally abrasive polish. It is designed to help remove surface grime and address light surface marks on compatible glossy card surfaces.

CLEAN should always be approached conservatively. Begin with a small amount and light pressure, then evaluate the surface before doing additional work.

CLEAN can also be used on compatible plastic slabs and magnetic holders to help reduce light surface marks.

GLOW — Surface Enhancement & Clarity

GLOW is CardRX's non-abrasive finishing polish. Use GLOW when the goal is to improve the appearance, shine, and clarity of a compatible card surface.

GLOW can be used by itself for a quick finishing step or as part of your overall CardRX workflow.

HOW TO CLEAN A CARD

STEP 1 — PREPARE YOUR WORKSPACE

  • Choose a clean, well-lit workspace.

  • Place the card on the CardRX non-slip foam mat and make sure your applicator and microfiber cloth are clean.

  • Avoid working around loose dust, debris, or anything that could contaminate the card surface.

STEP 2 — APPLY A SMALL AMOUNT

  • Place a small amount of CLEAN or GLOW onto the applicator.

  • You do not need to cover the applicator with product. Start small.

  • It is always easier to add a little more than to remove excess product.

STEP 3 — WORK THE SURFACE

  • Using controlled, gentle movements, work the product across the appropriate surface.

  • Start with light pressure.

  • As you gain experience with CardRX and become familiar with a particular card surface, you can adjust your pressure and technique accordingly.

  • The key is control.

  • Do not aggressively scrub the card or repeatedly work one area without inspecting your progress.

STEP 4 — REMOVE ALL RESIDUE

Use the microfiber cloth to thoroughly remove the product.

Pay special attention to:

  • Edges

  • Corners

  • Borders

  • Surface transitions

Do not assume the card is clean simply because the center of the surface looks clear. Residual product can hide around edges and corners.

STEP 5 — INSPECT THE SURFACE

This is one of the most important steps. Place the card under a bright light and slowly tilt it from different angles. Look at the reflections across the entire surface.

You're looking for:

  • Streaks

  • Haze

  • Remaining residue

  • Uneven areas

  • Anything that doesn't look consistent with the surrounding surface

If you see residue, continue cleaning with the microfiber cloth until the surface is clean.

STEP 6 — CHECK THE EDGES

Before sleeving or storing the card, inspect all four edges and corners. Make sure no product remains trapped around the perimeter. Once you're satisfied with the result, place the card in your preferred protective holder.

CARDRX PRO — GO BEYOND SURFACE CARE

CardRX PRO adds a collection of specialized tools designed for collectors who want to take their card-care process further. These tools require more experience and greater attention to technique than basic surface cleaning.

HUMIDOR — Controlled Conditioning

The CardRX PRO humidor provides a controlled environment for conditioning card fibers during certain reshaping techniques.

A typical working range is approximately 70–85% humidity, but humidity exposure should always be approached conservatively.

The objective is controlled conditioning—not saturating the card.

Time, humidity, and the individual card all matter.

COMPRESSION DISCS & CLAMPS — Controlled Pressure

The compression system can be used as part of a controlled process for addressing certain:

  • Bends

  • Flared corners

  • Uneven edges

  • Surface irregularities

Proper positioning is critical.

NANO WATER ATOMIZER — Precision Moisture

The nano atomizer provides controlled moisture for certain edge and corner techniques.

Use distilled water only.

Moisture should be applied sparingly and deliberately. Excessive moisture or prolonged exposure can damage card stock.

EDGE & CORNERING TOOL — Precision Finishing

The edge and cornering tool is designed for detailed work around card edges and corners.

It can be used to address minor roughness and refine the appearance of certain edges and corners.

This is an advanced technique.

Practice on inexpensive cards before attempting it on cards of significant value.

THERE IS NO ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL TECHNIQUE

This is especially important with the PRO system.

Different cards have different:

  • Card stock

  • Coatings

  • Finishes

  • Surface characteristics

  • Edge construction

  • Corner construction

  • Conditions

The technique that works for one card may not be appropriate for another. Experience is what teaches you when to stop.

Start conservatively, inspect frequently, and make small adjustments rather than trying to accomplish everything in one pass.

WHAT CARDS ARE BEST SUITED FOR CARDRX?

CardRX is primarily intended for raw cards with glossy, coated, non-textured surfaces. Examples include many: Chrome • Prizm • Optic • Select and similar modern glossy card finishes.

However, the presence of a glossy finish alone does not guarantee compatibility.

When you're unsure about a particular card, test your process on a lower-value example of the same or similar finish first.

SURFACES TO APPROACH WITH CAUTION

We recommend that users who are new to CardRX avoid experimenting on valuable cards with specialized surfaces, including:

  • Autographed cards

  • Cards with serial numbering

  • Vintage cardboard

  • Matte finishes

  • Textured finishes

  • Patch and memorabilia cards

  • Specialty or unusual coatings

These surfaces can behave differently and may be more susceptible to damage or residue.

If you don't know how a surface will react, don't make your expensive card the test card.

CARDRX BEST PRACTICES

LESS IS MORE

Start with a small amount of product. Add more only when necessary.

LIGHT PRESSURE FIRST

Begin gently and evaluate the surface before increasing pressure.

KEEP YOUR TOOLS CLEAN

Contaminated applicators and cloths can introduce debris and contribute to streaking or residue.

USE GOOD LIGHT

A strong light source makes residue and surface inconsistencies much easier to identify.

CLEAN THE EDGES

The job isn't finished when the center of the card looks good.

INSPECT BETWEEN STEPS

Don't blindly continue applying product. Stop, inspect, and decide whether another pass is actually necessary.

PRACTICE

Your technique matters just as much as the product.

Learn on cards you can afford to practice with before working on valuable cards.

CARDRX FAQ

Can I use GLOW by itself?

Yes. GLOW is non-abrasive and can be used independently when your primary goal is improving surface shine and clarity.

Can CLEAN be used on slabs?

Yes. CLEAN can be used to help reduce light surface marks on compatible plastic slabs and magnetic holders. Use a small amount and light pressure.

Can I reuse the microfiber cloths?

Yes. Clean them between uses and replace them when they become visibly soiled or begin contributing to streaking or residue.

Can I reuse the applicators?

Yes, provided they remain clean and suitable for use. Replace them when they become contaminated, worn, or visibly soiled.

How often should I clean my cards?

There is no set schedule. Use CardRX when appropriate for surface care, photography, displaying, listing a card for sale, or preparing a card for storage or grading. Avoid unnecessary cleaning or repeated handling.

Can I use CardRX before submitting a card for grading?

Yes. CardRX can be used as part of a careful card-preparation process before grading when the card's surface is compatible with the system. The purpose is to help ensure the card is clean, free of removable surface contamination, and presented as well as possible before submission. Always inspect the card carefully after cleaning and follow the grading company's current submission and condition guidelines.

Will CardRX improve my card's grade?

CardRX cannot guarantee a particular grading result or grade. However, proper card care and surface preparation can help ensure that a compatible card is presented in the best condition possible before grading.

CardRX is designed to help address surface-level issues such as fingerprints, grime, residue, and light surface imperfections that may affect the appearance of a card.

The final grade depends on the card's overall condition and the grading company's evaluation.

Is cleaning a card the same as altering a card?

Cleaning and alteration are not necessarily the same thing, and how a particular action is viewed can depend on the card, the technique used, and the standards of the grading company or marketplace involved.

CardRX is designed for surface-level cleaning and enhancement of compatible cards and card-related surfaces. Users should understand the characteristics of the card they are working on and use appropriate caution.

If grading is your goal, always consult the current standards and policies of the grading company you intend to use.
